The University of Bologna

The University of Bologna was founded in 1088 and is considered to be the oldest university in Western Europe. Nowadays, it still remains one of the most important institutions of higher education across Europe with around 85.000 enrolled students, 11 Schools, 33 research departments, 3000 academics and 3000 administrative staff.

University of Bologna is a comprehensive Higher Education Institution located in the Emilia-Romagna region, in the centre-north of Italy. University of Bologna is today the most internationalised of all Italian universities. Foreign students regularly enrolled are around 6000, while another 2000 arrive every year on international mobility programmes such as LLP/Erasmus, Overseas and Erasmus Mundus Action II. The number of students of the University of Bologna who go abroad on exchange programmes or on study grants is more than 2,000. The University of Bologna offers around 100 Undergraduate programmes, more than 100 Master programmes, 25 of which are completely taught in English or in another foreign language, and more than 90 Doctoral Programmes.

The ILOCALAPP project will be coordinated by the School of Languages and Literatures, Interpreting and Translation in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI). The School of Languages will be in charge of project management and of the linguistic and cultural aspects; DISI will be in charge of the technological implementation of the APP which will be developed.

The School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Interpreting and Translation offers both humanistic and technical studies, blending language training with a literary, historical-cultural and professional education.  Graduates have in-depth knowledge of several languages and their relative socio-cultural systems, and are able to translate written, oral and multimedia texts and products. The School ensures multi-disciplinary learning in a range of degree programmes which allow students to complete and enhance their curricula with experiences in the cultural and professional contexts studied. Students have many possibilities for exchanges with other universities in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. They can also take part in international mobility programmes in Europe and around the world for periods of study, internships and research. The range of linguistic, cultural, technical and professional topics included in the programme catalogue responds to the needs of an increasingly global labour market.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI) is one of the top informatics departments in Italy. Its goal is to contribute to the advancement of society through education, research and technology transfer. This goal is achieved by offering a broad spectrum of expertise ranging from theoretical computer science to software, hardware and application design and development. DISI researchers are well known internationally in various areas of computer science and engineering and are active in a large number of regional, national and international projects, as well as in industrial research and technology transfer through dedicated centres, academic spin-off industries and individual collaborations.
